The luxury of having any outdoor space — whether it be a terrace or acres of green countryside to enjoy — shouldn’t be taken for granted. But what’s a glorious garden without the added flourish of fancy outdoor furniture to sprawl yourself over?
From swanky sunbeds to sculptural sofas and posh parasols, here are the best luxury outdoor furniture brands to know now.
Andrew Martin’s showroom on Walton Street in Chelsea has been visited by members of the British royal family, Formula 1 racing drivers and film stars. The luxury furnishing brand was founded in 1978 by Martin Waller, a designer who has been involved in a spectrum of projects, from creating sets for the likes of James Bond, Gladiator and Harry Potter films, to providing interior designs services to luxury clients such as the Mandarin Oriental and Jumeirah Group in Dubai. “While many designers want to say something new, I want to say something old — to capture the flavour of an antique land and somehow bottle it,” Waller says. Andrew Martin’s refreshed and expanded outdoor offering combines scandi elegance with thoughtful functionality — outdoor cushions are resistant to the sun, moisture, mildew and staining and supported by slatted suspension for added comfort.
Tom Dixon
Dixon gained widespread recognition when his eponymous brand was established in 2002, having made a name for himself in the mid-1980s. The then untrained designer started by crafting welded furniture and creating pieces for notable brands such as the Italian furniture house Cappellini, where he conceived his famous S-chair. In the 1990s he took on the role of creative director at Habitat, aiming to rejuvenate the accessible brand. A host of awards followed: an OBE for services to British design in 2001 and designer of the year in 2014 at Maison & Objet in Paris. Renowned for his modular furniture and striking lighting, Dixon is also no stranger to outdoor design. He earned a silver medal for best garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and has introduced an outdoor range including tables, chairs, stools, matching cushions and portable lights. The Groove collection, a project that was more than a decade in the making, draws inspiration from Dixon’s Hydro aluminum chair. It showcases raised ridges and unique forms, influenced by the Art Deco movement.
Kartell
Founded by Giulio Castelli in 1949, the Italian furniture brand Kartell was later acquired by Claudio Luti who brought a fashion-inspired approach — inspired by his background at the luxury house Versace — to the furniture label. This led to collaborations with prominent designers and architects from Philippe Starck to Ron Arad and Antonio Citterio, whose creations quickly became some of the brand’s most symbolic and successful pieces. A significant turning point for Kartell was the 1999 launch of its polycarbonate plastic furniture, which led to notable designs like the La Marie, a transparent chair which paved the way for the now bestselling Louis Ghost chair. The Bubble collection further showcased Kartell’s innovative use of plastic, using it to craft a range inspired by traditional family furniture that can be used both inside and outdoors. More recently Kartell has collaborated with Liberty on a new outdoor collection featuring renewed versions of the Plastic sofa, Trix pouffe and Cara armchair, all adorned with Liberty’s signature floral and geometric fabric covers specifically designed to withstand outdoor environments.
JAMES HOBBS, INDIAN OCEAN TRADING COMPANY LTD
Indian Ocean
Founded in 1990, Indian Ocean’s launch coincided with a shift in home design and the use and view of our outdoor living spaces. “Design that links indoor with out, via a series of seamlessly flowing spaces, became de rigueur and we’ve played our part in this lifestyle change,” the brand says. Indian Ocean’s story starts rather romantically when the founder, Jamie Hobbs, started importing oversized parasols from Madagascar, where his father was the Honorary Consul. As the label developed to include luxury outdoor furniture as well as lighting, the island influence remained with the introduction of teak heritage pieces and advanced fabrics to its collections. “Our initial concept can take up to two years to perfect from sketch to model, to sample to final testing,” the brand says. Since launching in Harrods in 2012, Indian Ocean has gained access into the world of the super-rich who are in need of super yachts, mansions and several holiday homes furnishing. The brand has grown accordingly to suit its luxury clientele with automatic gazebos, customisable garden kitchens and bespoke spaces. Just this month, it opened a new state of the art showroom at High Point Market in North Carolina to its loyal interior designers and private clients in America.
Vincent Sheppard
Vincent Sheppard’s tactile designs showcase the “Lloyd Loom” technique, which was developed in 1917. The style features kraft paper woven around a metal wire to create a base more stable than traditional wicker. Alongside the summery Lloyd Loom range which features across chairs, sofas, sunbeds and lanterns, there’s synthetic furniture that can be left outside all year long as well as a range of outdoor rugs and matching accessories. The Belgium-based outdoor furniture brand works with skilled local artisans in Cirebon, Indonesia, a city renowned for its weaving and rattan crafts and now exports to more than 80 countries over six continents. You can find Vincent Sheppard’s designs in some of the most beautiful hotels, homes and restaurants all over the world — it has helped define outdoor areas in co-working spaces in Marseilles to luxury hotels in St Barts.
Charlie Ovens
Inspired by a love of breadmaking that was born in lockdown and taken to new heights through the use of a commercial charcoal oven (“the results were incredible — the crust and crumb were spot-on”), Tara and Neil Quick founded Charlie Oven in 2021. Surpassing any basic barbecue, the brand’s playful design is an all-in-one charcoal oven, pizza oven, smoker and grill all rolled into one colourful outdoor kitchen unit. “With its sleek form and a stunning colour palette to complement any outdoor space, Charlie is a thing of beauty — built to be displayed, admired and enjoyed,” the brand says. It’s also not all style and no substance: each oven is made in Britain out of professional-grade stainless steel and designed to endure rain, snow and sunshine.
B&B Italia
Fast cars, fashion and furniture, things made in Italy continue to be a cut above the rest, and B&B Italia leads the way when it comes to championing local craftsmanship. The luxury furniture brand was founded in 1966 when Piero Ambrogio Busnelli teamed with the entrepreneur Cesare Cassina to establish C&B Italia — which remained, until Busnelli raised enough funds to buy out his fellow owner in 1973. The new name, B&B Italia, reportedly stands for Busnelli and banks — a homage to the lenders who helped Busnelli finally achieve full ownership. In 2025, B&B Italia’s designs are still contemporary and timeless, constantly responding to changes in its customers’ tastes and living needs. Both the brand’s interior furnishings and outdoor designs have been showcased in luxury hotels globally, most recently across the Bulgari hotels in Tokyo, Rome, Paris, Dubai, Shanghai, Beijing and Milan. B&B Italia’s newly extended Erica collection of luxury garden furniture is designed by the Italian architect Antonio Citterio and features modular seating that’s easily adjusted to suit every summer scenario, as well as relaxed curved sofas and durable, stackable outdoor chairs. “I tried to find all the solutions to the different typologies of outdoor furniture: from the terrace to the swimming pool, up to the garden, inside the private residences, or hotels,” Citterio says.
Carl Hansen & Søn
A third generation family-run business, Carl Hansen & Søn started its life in 1908 when Carl Hansen himself, a Danish cabinet maker, opened a small furniture workshop on the island of Funen. Fast forward to the 1950s, and new young Danish furniture designers such as Hans J Wegner, who went on to create the coveted wishbone chair, inspired the family-run business to expand its stock. Carl Hansen has since become the world’s largest producer of Wegner’s furniture. Now, the Danish brand has international partnerships with the Japanese architect Tadao Ando and the Austrian design trio EOOS and focuses on marrying innovation with sustainability. Its pledge to be more eco is commendable — the brand uses nearly every bit of wood it sources, repurposing the little scrap that remains as fuel in a district heating plant that provides warmth to local homes in Gelsted, Denmark. Carl Hansen & Søn latest luxury outdoor collection, Embrace, balances soft upholstery and stringent wood and showcases the work of skilled weavers who can spend up to six hours finishing just one backrest of the timeless outdoor sofas.
Roche Bobois
Roche Bobois was founded by two French families — the Roches and the Chouchans — who joined in the 1960s to import stylish Scandinavian furniture to their customers in Paris. The now recognisable name’s etymology comes from the Chouchans selling furniture in Paris on Boulevard Sébastopol at “Au Beau Bois” which later became simply Bobois. Today, the luxury furniture company is as design-led as ever as it continues to collaborate with renowned designers and fashion houses such as Missoni and Jean Paul Gautier. The brand’s outdoor collection focuses on adapting bestselling indoor items such as the Mah Jong sofa for outdoor use while maintaining its signature modular design and energetic, optimistic and colourful patterns. The most playful collection has to be Bombom by the designer Joana Vasconcelos. It features adjustable sofas and outdoor rugs in organic shapes, all inspired by the artist’s fluid, colourful and surprising wavy lines found in her mural work. Consider it a real garden party conversation starter.
Greycaine
A recent addition to the luxury outdoor furniture sphere, Greycaine only launched this year and is on a mission to bring the essence of Italian luxury into the home. “Gardens are no longer just practical, seasonal spaces, they have evolved into natural extensions of our interior style,” says Cristina Rugo, Greycaine’s creative director. “Once dominated by functional furniture, outdoor areas are now being curated with the same design intention and personality as the rest of the home.” A departure from the traditional and typical, Greycaine’s new outdoor collection is bold and never boring in both design and pattern: think sculptural sofas, accent tables and unexpected matcha green daybed and pink contrast piping. Each piece is crafted using premium Italian fabrics and sustainably sourced woods, to ensure each stands as its own alfresco work of art.
BoConcept
With an emphasis on customisation, the Danish brand BoConcept allows clients the luxury of personalisation with their furniture by providing a choice of materials, colours and configurations across its whole range of furniture. In fact, there are over 120 fabrics and leathers to choose from. Founded by two young cabinet makers Jens Ærthøj and Tage Mølholm in the 1950s, BoConcept showcases the principles that make Danish design admired around the world. Its outdoor furniture is no different featuring simple, well crafted and functional pieces built from quality materials. “No matter the size of your outdoor space, you should consider your outdoor area a year-round extension of your home,” says the brand. The new Cancún Kollektion of garden furniture promises to be the most inviting yet with rounded corners and additional cushioning for extra relaxation points. Designed by the Danish designer Morten Georgsen, the collection is characterised by clean lines and versatility. Each outdoor piece is crafted from lightweight materials like galvanised steel and aluminium to make it easier to move around and maximise its indoor-outdoor appeal.
