Ten years of creating homes with Flooring & Design | Sioux Center News

SIOUX CENTER—For 10 years now, Flooring & Design in Sioux Center has lent its expertise and care to new homes and remodeling projects. As the business’s owner celebrates this decade milestone, she’s eager to see what the future still has in store.

“We’ve been here 10 years, and we’re just getting started. We are going to continue to make sure to be the best we can for our customers and as helpful to keep their experience with us a good one,” owner Annette Van Voorst said. “We take every customer seriously and want to help them as best we can.”

Located next to Wireless World Verizon at 1921 S. Main Ave., Flooring & Design specializes in supplying everything needed for a house project — whether it’s updating decor, working through a remodeling project or building a new home. Displays of decorations, furniture and other furnishings provide pleasant visions of what’s possible and samples of all manner of material for carpet, backsplashes, countertops, blinds and cabinets give ready testimony to the range of options available.

As Van Voorst tells it, it’s the luxury vinyl plank flooring that’s been one of Flooring & Design’s most popular items.

A display for fireplace stones presents some of the many choices for building materials that can be found at Flooring & Design in Sioux Center. Flooring & Design owner Annette Van Voorst serves clients with needs ranging from building a new home to remodeling.

“It’s so durable and water resistant,” she said. “We’re seeing that in a lot of the new houses and the remodels. We also do a glue-down flooring for basements — if people have problems with water, that’s a good product for a basement.”

In her decade of doing business, she’s seen some changes in people’s tastes, and she’s adapted. Although gray is still a popular color, the tone has shifted to favor warmer variations.

“We’ve even seen some wallpaper come back on accent walls,” Van Voorst said.

One of the changes she’s implemented since getting started has been to her business’s digital space through its own website, flooringanddesignsc.com.

“People can go on our website, see what we offer and then they’ll come in and look at the actual product. So, we do see a lot of that,” she said. “It’s fun because we have these tables here and then we can have their flooring and/or their carpet and their cabinet and their paint color and have it all laid out for them to look at.”

Van Voorst did this kind of work for another company for 10 years from 2005-15 before she concluded she should start her own business.

Displays of decorations and furniture highlight the wide range of options available at Flooring & Design. The business’s owner, Annette Van Voorst, is happy to celebrate 10 years in business.

“I wanted to start a store that someone could walk into with their blueprints and could find everything they need here, where they could find flooring, the countertops, the cabinets, the paint color, the cabinet handles, lighting, all in one place instead of having to go to seven different stores for each specific item they needed to build the house or do a small remodel,” Van Voorst said.

Since then, the variety she sees in the projects and requests have made for an excellent experience.

“Every day is different. One day we’re helping someone with a new build and getting that all done, and the next day, we’re helping someone with blinds or the next day someone comes in and needs help with paint,” Van Voorst said. “I love the big projects and I love the little projects and I love it that after 10 years, we’re seeing repeat customers who are doing additional projects or have moved to a different house and want help with their new place. I just love working with people, and I have great employees who help make it possible.”

As a Sioux Center resident, she had no doubt she wanted to open her store in the community she calls home. Finding her place at the South Ridge Plaza, she has been thankful for the foot traffic generated from neighboring businesses, but above all, she’s been grateful for the support from the community through the last 10 years.
