5 Bathroom Tile Trends You’ll See Everywhere In 2025

While 2024 brought plenty of pattern, texture, and color into every space in the home, designers are continuing to embrace the vibrant and unexpected this year. Bathrooms offer a great spot to think outside the box, providing the ideal setting to explore large-format tile, Zellige, rich materials, a fun mosaic, or add a little intrigue to your en suite.

We sat down with home designers to get their take on what’s in for 2025 bathroom tile trends.

Unapologetic Color

“One unmistakable tile trend for 2025 is the use of bold, unapologetic color,” says Miami-based Ruben Gutierrez of Errez Design. Deep jewel tones like sapphire blues, emerald greens, and velvet-rich burgundies take bathrooms from clinical to charismatic.” Austin designer Maria Martin agrees, encouraging homeowners to lean into a “rich material palette” like “marble with patterns in dark colors,” she says. “Marble is no longer used in just white and grey, it comes in greens, violets, browns, and rusty reds.”

Looking for a muse? Step outside and “bring exterior colors into the tile in bathrooms, whether that is taking inspiration from the architecture or the geography. For example, around Austin, Texas, we often use terracotta tiles because it’s a nod to our warm landscape,” says O’Hara Interiors’ Heidi Feliz-Grimm.

Silo Studios’ founder Gabriela Eisenhart offers her opinion: “Unconventional shades like maroon, purple, and rich blues and greens are taking center stage,” she says.

Virginia designer Nancy Parris loves the “return of geometric patterns, which were all the rage in mid-century modern design,” she says. “This revival allows us to mix timeless elements into our modern spaces seamlessly.”

Ann Edgerton, a Texas interior designer and furniture maker, is also drawn to nostalgia through “exciting geometric patterns,” she says. “There is something old-world about a geometric pattern, and adding it to a new build can add a ton of depth to a space.” For a recent project, she created an asymmetrical rainbow array using cement tiles.

Depth and Movement

“Simple patterns are the easiest way to dip your toes into adding color if committing to a colorful tile is overwhelming,” says designer Kelly Neely. For a recent beach project, she opted for Chinoiserie tile, a handmade mosaic from New Ravenna featuring marcasite, pewter, mica, and quartz sea glass. “It’s a work of art,” she adds.

A dynamic mosaic is a sure win. Boca Raton-based designer Adrian Andronachi is currently loving the “striking evolution in the use of three-dimensional sculptural tiles, which add depth, movement, and visual intrigue by playing with light and shadow,” he says.

Go Large-Format or Frame the Border

Break the tile layout rules this year and embrace oversized, large-format tile in interesting patterns. Designer Sarah Hargrave of The Collective says the “key to success is to ensure the design feels intentional and well-balanced,” she says. This year, she’s become a fan of border tiles, a “re-emerging trend that frames the main tile area, adding definition and a polished aesthetic.”

Alternatively, “incorporating stone tile molding trims that echo the millwork throughout the home creates a harmonious, seamless effect, adding a sense of dimension and refinement whether working with wood or stone,” says Whitney Tingle, director of interior design at Christopher Architecture & Interiors.

Choose Handmade

Look for handmade over perfection when choosing tile. “One of the most exciting trends is the rise of bespoke accent tiles, where handcrafted and custom-designed tiles replace mass-produced options,” Adronachi says. “Homeowners are opting for hand-painted patterns, artisanal mosaics, and engraved motifs that reflect their heritage or personal taste, making the bathroom an extension of their identity.”
