Whether it’s fashion, music or travel, trends come and trends go, and they tend to ebb and flow as we close out another year. This is certainly the case with interior design as well, and bathrooms are no exception. Although some bathroom trends prevailed in recent years, in 2025, they’ll begin to fade away, replacing them with fresh new features to include.
“In 2025, look for an emphasis on spa-like bathrooms that integrate wellness features— saunas, specialty shower head filters and steam showers,” says Marcella Domonkos, Principal Designer of MD Design based in Denver, Colorado. “Aesthetically, the emphasis will be on warmth. Nothing cold or too cutting edge. Warm tones, vintage elements and an overall more holistic approach to design in an area that sets the tone for your day ahead.”

Why Is It Beneficial to Keep Up with Bathroom Trends?
While it might seem trite to keep up with the latest interior design trends, it actually does serve a practical purpose, and it’s true of bathroom design as well. It’s particularly key if you’re trying to sell your home.
“Two of the most important areas in your home for resale value are your kitchen and bathrooms,” Domonkos says. “If you have an on-trend, newly designed bathroom, your home will stand out to buyers. Even something as ‘small’ as beautiful bathroom fixtures can have huge impact on potential buyers.”
Jessika Gatewood, Owner and Designer of Gatewood Designs based in Richland, Washington believes that while staying aware of trends can offer inspiration and help you avoid choices that might feel dated quickly, you shouldn’t necessarily be a slave to them.
She advises, “Instead of chasing trends, focus on selecting timeless materials and finishes that will stand the test of time. A well-designed bathroom should feel fresh and functional for years, not just one season.”
In other words? Ahead, we’re sharing the trends that are about to fall out of favor with the new year, but if you love them, that’s all that matters. Designing in a way that suits your tastes or keeping things timeless is always an option, too.

7 Dated Bathroom Trends to Avoid in 2025
All-White Bathrooms
While all-white bathrooms been popular for years, “entirely white bathrooms can feel cold and uninspired,” as Gatewood says. “In 2025, embrace contrast with warmer tones, natural stone or textured finishes for depth and character.”
Full Glass Showers
Domonkos says that full glass showers have “been the rage” for the past few years, but now that we’re moving into 2025, they’ll become something you’ll want to avoid.
“We are seeing a resurgence in closed-off showers that feel cozier, more relaxing and make you feel far less exposed,” she says.
Farmhouse Decor
In general, the farmhouse decor ship has sailed, which also translates to farmhouse decor elements in the bathroom. According to Gatewood, these can include shiplap walls, barn doors and overly rustic fixtures. She notes that homeowners are moving toward “a more modern or transitional aesthetic.”

Patterned Floor Tile
“Patterned floor tile is going out,” Domonkos observes. “It’s a too-busy, too-visually-stimulating look that detracts from what will be more important in 2025—a calm, serene and soothing bathroom that takes its design cues from an incredible spa.”
Massive Jacuzzi Tubs
Gatewood says that oversized jacuzzi tubs are being replaced by sleek freestanding tubs or even luxurious walk-in showers that feel more spa-like and take up less space.
Black Fixtures
“Bye-bye black fixtures,” Domonkos says. “These have been popular in the past, but in 2025, bathrooms are moving away from the harsh, cold fixtures toward more ‘living finishes,’ such as brass, that will change and patina over time.”
Cool-Toned Grays
Gatewood says that while gray has been a staple in recent years, cooler tones are giving way to warmer hues such as taupe, beige or greige, “which create a cozier and more inviting atmosphere.”
