Tile trends are a hot topic at the beginning of every year. Discovering the colors, shapes, and designs that will dominate is a great guide when it comes to remodeling or revamping various rooms in the home.
From bathrooms and laundry rooms to kitchens and boot rooms, there are so many spaces in the home that can be elevated with tile ideas. Blending aesthetics with function, introducing tiles to hardworking rooms is really a no-brainer.
But what are the biggest tile trends for 2025, and how can you introduce them to your schemes? Here, design experts share the trends they are most excited about and how they’re seamlessly incorporating them into homes.
9 tile trends to try in 2025
With so many changing trends and styles to choose from, these transformative tile trends for 2025 can help you narrow down your selections and be in the know with the latest in tile design.
1. Textural tile designs

Interior design trends this year are all focusing on layers, texture, and unique appeal. And when it comes to tiles, it’s all about ditching perfect finishes and introducing more fluid, organic textures and finishes.
‘In 2025, tile trends will embrace texture, warmth, and the unexpected. Handcrafted looks, organic finishes, and earthy tones like terra cotta will take center stage. We’ll be celebrating imperfection, tiles that feel distinct, like they’ve been made by hand, with subtle color variations and interesting finishes,’ says interior designer Ami McKay.
‘At our Rocky Mountaineer project, we combined three different tiles to create a beautifully layered look, enhanced by colored grout to add unexpected contrast. The terra cotta breeze block is both functional and appealing, dividing the space while allowing light and air to flow through, bringing visual interest and a sense of harmony. Used alongside an organic finish for the top square tile, with a matte vertical tile below, the combination is warm and memorable.’
2. Personalized tiles

There’s a clear shift in interiors towards more personalized designs – and what could be more unique than introducing limited or custom tiles?
‘Just like a lot of wider interior trends for 2025, there is a move towards personalized tiles, whether that be small batch runs of limited numbers, hand-painted, or whether you go the full way and have a custom-made tile that is unique to your home,’ says Louise Ashdown, head of design at West One Bathrooms.
‘The latter is a trend we are seeing more and more of, as homeowners look to create spaces that no one else has! One such way to do it is through custom mosaics, turning ideas and even drawings into tiles that can be used on the walls. Whether you have a particular color you love, you adore nature or something entirely different, this trend is one that centers on you.’
3. Warm minimalist colors

While stark whites and millennial grays will not be making a return, there is an emerging trend for warm minimalism, a cozier, more inviting take on the pared-back aesthetic. And tiles are a great way to introduce them.
‘2025 is about a calmer way of life and we’ll see a trend emerging that dials down the color and turns up the texture, big time! Soothing Minimalism will see you layering calming tones and creating visual texture to help you rest and reset in your home,’ says Grazzie Wilson, head of creative at Ca’ Pietra.
‘Those taking trend notes, scribble down natural materials and cold whites dialed up and let those be your northern star. Let matte and satin finishes live side by side and watch what their textural interplay does to your room, and don’t be afraid to mix things up – soft white matchstick tiles and velvet-soft XL limestone tiles go together just as well as gin and tonic.’
4. Tile drenching

Drenching was the buzzword of 2024 trends, and it’s going nowhere this year. Color drenching and pattern drenching proved enduringly popular, but in 2025, it’s tile’s turn to take center stage.
Tile drenching is an alternative way to embrace the technique in harder working rooms like bathrooms and kitchens, but also cozier rooms, too. Seeing tiles taken over the floors, walls, and even key features like the vanity and bathtub, it’s a simple yet effective way to make a bold statement.
There are several different ways to approach the tile drenching trend. Opt for one consistent tile across all of your surfaces for a monochromatic space, or mix a few colors, shapes, and finishes for a more dynamic design.
5. Delft tiles

‘Delft tiles are back big time,’ says designer Emily Henderson. ‘The originals are, of course, the most beautiful but there are a lot of companies trying to make pretty new versions and doing a great job.’
Rustic farmhouse kitchens are always on trend, but this is new (well, actually very old) tile trend we are seeing being using in this style of space. Delft tiles originate from Europe, the Netherlands specifically, and are usually blue and white, depicting some kind of bucolic scene.
They are having a resurgence in 2024, perfect for adding character and charm to any style of kitchen. You can still find original, vintage delft tiles, but they are still being made by suppliers all over the world so easy to get your hands on.
6. New layouts to make old classics more current

Tile trends are just about the tile this year, but the layouts too. Designers are getting more creative with tile layouts.
‘It doesn’t get much more classic than subway tile, but instead of the traditional brick lay, put a modern spin by stacking the tiles, either vertically or horizontally,’ explains Jennifer Verruto, founder and CEO of Blythe Interiors. ‘You can also opt for a hand-molded look, instead of a completely perfect rectangle, to bring an artisan flair to your space.’
‘While the stacked tile look is currently trending, it’s also going to look amazing for years to come. Our clients love this simple, clean, and elevated look.’
Grazzie agrees tile layouts are getting more innovative and exciting this year, transforming classic into totally new looks. ‘Another tile trend we’ll see when it comes to how to lay your tiles is to use tiles to frame, or in other words, tile framing!’ she shares.
‘A more subtle way to lay tiles but with lots of impact, tiles can be used to highlight various features of your home, for example, shower brassware or even your bath. Either choose tiles in the same color palette as the rest of the room or go bold and use an additional, bolder color.’
7. Stripes

Speaking of pattern, we are seeing a lot of decorating with stripes. And not just on wallpapers and fabrics but with tiles too. They add a whimsical, fun touch to a bathroom and yet still very chic.
‘Stripes are in,’ says Grazzie. ‘Style up your bathroom with striped tiles and you’ll find yourself at the top of the decor charts. You can also get creative with how you create your stripes, choosing to add layers of stripes into the same room. Lay them vertically and horizontally in the same space, and if you want to get bold, create unique patterns such as a rug effect with your striped tiles – think of it as stripes on stripes!’
8. Checkerboard

We all know that checkerboard has taken the world of fashion and interiors by storm over the last few years, and whether you like it or not, this classic pattern is staying around this year.
Whether you opt for a more traditional black and white palette or create a union of vibrant, modern colors, a checkerboard tile pattern can add a beautiful, graphic touch to a space.
‘Checkerboard, once subsumed within traditional design, has now emerged as its very own trend, and evolved into one of the hottest surface and tile trends within bathrooms. We should also mention that stripes are just as popular, and for the ultimate combination, the two can be contrasted together,’ says Barrie Cutchie, design director at BC Designs.
Even though checkerboard is one of the most popular styles of tile, there is so much variety in terms of color, size and material, so you really can establish an utterly unique checkerboard tile design in your home.
9. Timeless terracotta

An ancient, earthenware tile that has been used for thousands of years, terracotta will always be one of the most popular and enduring tile trends.
Hamish Smith, creative director at Ca’Pietra says, ‘When it comes to choosing tiles, terracotta designs are certainly having their moment. From baked clay tones that warm up any room, to earthy texture with just the right balance between rugged and refined, it’s no wonder that terracotta is a forever trend.’
Hamish goes on to say, ‘The beauty of terracotta is that it builds up a patina over time. In other words, the more you use it and the older it gets, the better and more characterful it will look. To add an inviting warmth to your space, lay these tiles from the kitchen through to an entryway, cloakroom, and dining room.’
The tile trends of 2025 are all very much in line with the wider trend for embracing styles you love, creating spaces that are filled with charm and character and reflect the person behind the rooms. Neutral tiles will always be on trend, but this year we are seeing more color, more pattern and more texture being used to create joyful spaces.
